Kyle Spencer is focused on developing the African Internet infrastructure, content, and policy landscape as Executive Director of the Uganda Internet Exchange Point, Co-Coordinator of the African IXP Association, board member of the Internet Exchange Federation, and CEO of Stormzero Consulting. He also founded or helped establish many other notable community organizations and projects, and currently spends his free time working to develop Africa's regional multiplayer Internet gaming ecosystem.
Abstract A 10-15 minute presentation about the state of IXPs in the African region. This includes traffic levels, connections, governance models, pricing, staffing, and more. The data primarily originates from the annual African IXP Association industry benchmark survey. Historical data, where available, has been incorporated to showcase trends over time.

Ron Bonica is a Distinguished Engineer at Juniper Networks, specializing in IPv6 and Segment Routing. He is active in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), having authored or co-authored twenty RFC documents and served three two-year terms as co-director of the IETF Operations and Management Area. Ron currently co-chairs the IETF V6OPS and OPSEC Working Groups. Prior to joining Juniper Networks, Ron was employed by a major Internet Service Provider and operated Layer 3 Virtual Private Network service for U.S. Government customers.
Abstract This is a proxy for the author : Ron Bonica ([email protected]) who is having issues getting to the pctool. SRv6+ is an IPv6 architecture that supports traffic engineering and network programmability. Specifically, it supports both strict and loose source routing using a new Routing Header type, called the Compressed Routing Header (CRH). It also supports per-segment and per-path service instructions, using new IPv6 Destination Options. Per-segment service instructions support service function chaining, while per path service instructions support decapsulation and VPN forwarding. SRv6+ differs from its predecessors in that a) it adheres strictly to the IPv6 addressing architecture [RFC 4291], b) it adheres strictly to IPv6 [RFC 8200] processing rules, c) it leverages existing IPv6 protocol machinery to the greatest degree possible. SRv6+ also differs from its predecessor it that it is optimized for ASIC-based forwarding devices.

Abstract == Intro == Telemetry / Monitoring, also known as Observability, as been a hot topic in the software industry for few years. With so many moving pieces, the mindset around telemetry shifted from I know what I want to monitor to I don’t know yet what might be important to understand the next outage. It seems obvious but previously the tools available to monitor applications and system had some limitations that would limit how much we can explore the data after the fact but most importantly how much we could analyze, correlate or compare different datasets. This new requirement drove a new set of tools that changed the paradigme around monitoring. The goal of this talk is to help Network Engineer to get started with modern Time serie database (prometheus) and associated visualization tools like Grafana. After the introductoin, there will be a tutorial or guided lab that will show the audience how to create a dashboard in grafana and teach/demonstrate some examples of queries on Prometheus, a popular time serie database.

Abstract What I would like to tell about is the usage of MPLS in our Data Center Fabric built with commodity switches based on merchant silicon. MPLS is not a typical case for data centers due to its considerable complexity. This is what people generally think of deploying MPLS in data centers. However, we managed to get rid of complexity and I believe to obtain the elegant design. We use MPLS everywhere – in our built in-house network appliances, simple Linux hosts, virtual machines and of course in network fabric itself. What proves this architecture is good is that our network fabric has been successfully operating for these years. In my presentation, I would like to share our experience and describe the control plane used, the huge benefits we have received, the new great approaches we have been able to take and how scalability issues have been resolved because of MPLS. Moreover, of course, what fanny and severe bugs on the network equipment we have encountered.

Abstract Automating “Network Ready for Use” Testing This tutorial will showcase an approach using the “pytest” open-source tool to validate operational states of the network. The content will consist of a presentation and instructor live Python coding. The presentation will cover motivation for NRFU automated testing, introduction of pytest core-concepts, and discussion of network testing approaches. The instructor will live code each aspect of using pytest that covers: defining custom pytest CLI options, loading per-device test-cases, using pytest CLI options for filtering tests, and generating HTML visual based reports. The audience is expected to have a working understanding of Python, however this tutorial is not a hands-on coding workshop. User-Story: As a network engineer I need to ensure that the network is ready for use - whether it is for a new buildout, making changes, or fixing issues. Right now I am manually running all the “show commands” and visually inspecting the output. Doing this process manually is often difficult due to the number of checks I need to perform and managing all the complex data relationships that makeup network services. As a result, mistakes are made and I am concerned I am not testing everything that I need to. I need software to automate these tests and give me a pass / fail report. Alissa Cooper is a Fellow at Cisco Systems. Since 2017 she has been serving as the Chair of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Previously, she served three years as an IETF Applications and Real-Time (ART) area director and three years on the Internet Architecture Board (IAB). She also served as the chair of the IANA Stewardship Coordination Group (ICG). At Cisco she was responsible for driving privacy and policy strategy within the company’s portfolio of real-time collaboration products before being appointed as IETF Chair. Prior to joining Cisco, Alissa served as the Chief Computer Scientist at the Center for Democracy and Technology, where she was a leading public interest advocate and technologist on issues related to privacy, net neutrality, and technical standards. Alissa holds a PhD from the Oxford Internet Institute and MS and BS degrees in computer science from Stanford University.
